Temps dropping and gusting NW'er here at present.
I just tried to find the Canterbury lightning strike page but it appears to have gone - or has it moved? Anyone?

Looking dark to the south as the upper air cools.
I haven't checked CAPE for today but I don't think it would be that sexy or the Lifted index

No not looking good here either, strong NW wind blowing here, which kills any chance of a Thunder storm developing, but may well be still a squally change though.

I have now officially given this event a "Gone-burger".
There will be NO lightning, the sound of thunder or any squally winds
Barometer on the rise.
Probably only get 0.7mm of drizzle?
I think the whole event has gone out to sea, still NW here although lighter now and a bit cooler
Roll on the next system
May do some early 'frost-chasing' tomorrow night???

Yes, a rather dissapointing affair, but we have had a couple of lightning strikes in South Canterbury.

Low scud moving in from the ESE.
A huge drop in temperature of 1.8C in the last 8 minutes.
Wind between SW and SE.
Ugly clouds now forming to the NW to north of here.
Barometer racing upwards.

Looking a wee bit more like a threatening cloud line coming from the South now,may be I was a bit hasty earlier.I'm completely confused now.

There is an area of rain to the south of CHCH and then then is a line of showers on a colder valued front currently moving north but lying just south of Timaru. This second front is a fresh surge of colder air yet. Convective tops are only about 5-6kilometres at this time.

It's a wonder there wasn't a high risk for thunderstorms today as the skies look more dramatic than Tuesday and there was some light rain, here this afternoon and there is a light NE here now. Nothing like that the other day.
