Re: General April Weather
They used to use that term all the time especially given if embedded fronts, usually when depressions are to the south, also the weather when cloudy used to be called "fair" and winds were known as fresh or strong rather than breezy.

Re: General April Weather
Once again just stunning outside. Very warm, 24 degrees currently and rising. Once again not a breath of wind out there all morning with baking sunshine.
Now up to 26.2 degrees with a light NNW now. Metservice may have got one right today

Re: General April Weather
Fair or breezy are not terms generally used in meteorological forecasts, as they're too subjective. Fair basically means a lack of extremes, e.g. not too hot, not too cold, not too sunny, not too cloudy, etc.Michael wrote:...also the weather when cloudy used to be called "fair" and winds were known as fresh or strong rather than breezy.
In nautical terms, fair-weather means a lack of wind. Fresh or strong however have specific definitions on the universally accepted Beaufort Wind Scale (as does the term, gale, often flippantly used by a certain user here) and are still used in everyday forecasts both in NZ and around the world.

What a month for us in Marlborough !!!
We hit 27.3 yesterday - up from a -.03 low at 6.30am ish - thats Blenheim reading from Cheeryland orchard.
Streams that give water supply to batches in the Sounds are at lowest (some completly dry) levels ever seen.

Re: General April Weather
Light to moderate rain has been falling since about 1pm, at a slow rate though only 2.4mm in the gauge so far.
Here's hoping it picks up abit more .
Edit: Half an hour later rain has become more moderate than light now, and up to 4.5mm now.

Re: General April Weather
Been raining here 10am. Up to 9mm here so far. Looks like only another hour or so as the band is starting to speed up and head north quickly and also moving more out to sea. Northeast breeze here now too. Longer period of rain today than i suspected. Tomorrows NNW flow, should it become gusty will dry things out quick and wont allow as much absorption. We will still need a couple more days like this too help turn all the brown green but a drought not looking so likely anymore. In the past couple of weeks rocks at the bottom of the avon river have become visible in some parts due to such lack of water. Today should freshen things up and offer some grass growth but will take more rain to get further down into the soil. A good 17 degrees colder today lol, only 10 degrees most the day

Re: General April Weather
warm, muggy day here today, still 21 deg outside with a comfortable NNE breeze, makes you want to just sit outside & relax with a nice cold brewsky, which is exactly what I am doing
Might be in for a nice sunset here too
