Yeh I've noticed quite a few flickers of the lights, so long as it holds out till the league finishes

Re: General September Weather
Not surprised. 18 here now. The wind is very severe at the moment. A friend said in Cashmere the wind is calm so must be localised around the city.

Re: General September Weather
The 46kt average at Dunedin airport would be a very rare occurrence there. Its not an area prone to gale force winds. Maybe a 1/20 year event.

Re: General September Weather
Steven W, where do you get the METARS for Dunedin? It is very difficult to get many current weather obs for New Zealand....even the SYNOPS are only every 3 hours, and I can only find Metars for Auckland , Wellington + Christchurch. A mean of 46kts is quite a strong wind....force 9 on the old beaufort.
May I extend my best wishes for a speedy recovery to all of you in the area affected by the earthquake. From the TV pictures we have seen in the UK, it is a miracle that no one was killed.

Re: General September Weather
I wouldn't push that one too hard. The average monthly maximum gusts are in the range 85-95kph, and every month has an instance of a gust of at least 111kph, with the highest value being 155kph on 13 September 1972. The summary for that month notes that gale force winds occurred there for almost the entire afternoon and evening on that day, with one 10-minute period with an average speed of 59 knots.NZstorm wrote:The 46kt average at Dunedin airport would be a very rare occurrence there. Re: General September Weather
Hopefully here too it blows from the NW only moderate here, blow those annoying spring grublike pine pollen things off the roof instead of annoying small amounts where it just looks unsightly.
