Winter Solstice Sunday Morning 710am the sun +23.26mins Deg north and the seasons "lagging behind due to the seas still cooling down.
Longest night tonight shortest day 22nd.

I thort that the 21 and 22nd were roughly the same length and tonight was the longest night.

Good point about the lag is seasons Michael. Yes, 21st June is as much the middle of winter as 21st December is the middle of summer.

Just only if it could be sunny here-its impossible getting any washing dry due the persistant showers :(
The cloud rolls in from the west every morning-it sits out there till about an hour or so after sunup

On TV1 They had about how mild it is this year at the solstice-They mentioned Dunedin ,Christchurch ,Wellington and Napier but NO Auckland mentioned in the item because its no different than any other year(nonstop rain and 15-16c)-We had the weather bomb on the solstice last year but the temps still were the same.

As you suggest, the milder conditions south of the Bombay is just normal weather for Auckland. It turned out to be a nice day after the fog cleared. But more rain tomorrow although the front looks weak on our lattitude and should clear away quickly in the morning.
