photographic competition ideas

Unread post by 03Stormchaser »

Steven (NZstorm) has suggested a photographic competition, which I have also been thinking about, discussed the idea with Aaron a while back.

Steven suggested A photographic competition to get the best cb photo of the comming summer

I think we should run 3 competition's
1 for best over all photo (must be weather related :) )
1 for best cb photo
and one for best lightning shot or best lightnig caught on film.

All photos must be taken in a certain time period, possibilites 1 Oct tru too 1 March.

An entry fee would be charged to those interested in competing, ($5 for 1 section-$10 for 2 or more would be ample) If Steven Graham is ok about it I think the money should go thru him.

Prizes would be split up into 1,2,3 in each section, and the money split up accordingly

For each section a (or 2) different user (who hasnt entered ;) ) should be a judge. ie any of us whot take photos of clouds etc wont be judging any section. I myself dont use use a digital camera, mainly only miniDV camera, so i could help in 1 section.

This is just some of my ideas I would be very interested in yours :)

Cheers Stephen

The three competitions sound like a good idea.

I'm not sure about the entry fee though - might make things a bit too serious :)

I'd suggest just using forum Polls for judging which means that anyone registered can vote. It would be up to those who have entered whether they vote for themselves or not.

What do other people think ?

Yes, I like the idea the competitions.

The main idea is for people to photograph the cb's and storms that develop in their region over the summer. Lets see which region/s has the most photogenic weather.

One important requirement would be the photo is taken within NZ, and over this summer. Entries need to submit the location and date the photo was taken.

Couple of questions, can you limit people to only one vote per photo? nd would you scale the voting? eg 1-10

Soundz good just need to get it up and going before the season really gets under way :)

You are limited to one vote per poll. Once you have voted you can only change it and that stops when the poll is closed.

If you wanted a "scoring" system you would need a poll for every photo with a bit of manual effort to figure out the winner.

How about getting Bob McD from metservice to judge? I think they have a photo of the month / quarter on the royal met soc website.

Just need to have a thread in the photo section specifically for entries and he could look through it on judgement day.

Cheers,

G

I think forum members judging would still be a better idea

yeah... I was up there in February for a cricket tournament we had a doozy storm but never got any flashes on camera.

I'm going to invest in a digital video soon (I was actually given permisson for a Boltek :D from the girl, but do I really need it???) so I can get a Spring storm on film.
