Was that the Ruakura station or the AP AWS?NZstorm wrote:I see Hamilton got 110mm.
because thats different to the value I am seeing, 87.8mm according to Hamilton AWS (midnight reset).
Funnily enough all records seem to be using a midnight reset where I am looking (finally phasing out the stupid 9 AM reset )

Re: Significant tropical-rain event 22-25 Jan
Just over 11mmm so far in the Eastern suburbs of Wellington...
Rain rate is certainly on the rise, but hitting at only 2.5mm/hr (peak of 5mm/hr just after 2pm), so nothing like that up north
Has not got over 14 deg so far today, and the wind seems to be getting gustier (but is just a mild breeze still!)
Cloud level down to about the top of Melrose (approx 100m), but planes still coming and going at the airport.
Will be a miserable evening for a game of footie at the Stadium.

90mm from the event so far here in Henderson, Waitakere. We haven't really had any clearance, though the rain has backed off to a drizzle and the wind has picked up. Barometer looks to be dropping down at a faster rate in the last hour, currently 995.7 here.

My smoke detectors keep going off... very annoying!
Humid as hell here in Waitakere. (although one assumes hell would be a dry heat)

Hmm, those optical sensor smoke detectors are troublesome. Worse still there are some horror stories online about them not being effective when you need them. I'm staying with my oldies with the radioactive isotope in them. Old but very reliable.
Back to weather, impressive flying by the pilots when I was out earlier, the plane was probably turned 30° into the the wind. Airport must have been close to closing due to the strong crosswind. Wish I wasn't driving and had a video camera at the time. Rain has largely stopped except from the occasional heavy shower.

Re: Significant tropical-rain event 22-25 Jan
Steady rain in Tawa since 8 o'clock this morning. 23 mm now.
Low cloud hugging the hilltops, light winds, 72% hum., baro dropping slowly.
17 mm at Mana, north of Porirua.
The team were turned back at Wgtn Railway Station this morning when they cancelled the Wairarapa Airshow.
Gave ourselves a consolation prize of watching a Warbirds over Wanaka DVD instead while staying dry.
Until a downpipe became blocked with leaves and pesky silver birch seed...

It will go S or SW suddenly, what I notice here it starts going to the west then suddenly it will go N or NE for a few minutes as a very gentle breeze to tease then all hell lets loose.
