Is any of the bad weather suppose to make it to CHCH in the next week?tich wrote:Sunny in Chch - thanks to little wind it feels warmer than the 9C that it is now. Must be more low level snow in the far south going by the noon obs. Milford Sound only 1C with 5mm in previous hour.
According to nzcity, we are going to be basically fine for five days.
According to fencepost.com, its going to turn nasty on sunday night/ monday.

It's the only thing i had on me at the time to gauge the size. I keep telling students not to have their phones in class. Naughty me.
Maybe a mini-tornado (yes, I know, i'm using those nasty words hehehe!) Hit a vodafone shop?!!!

None on ground yesterday just rain, haven't had a good fall for a couple of years. Clearling again now just a tease.Gary Roberts wrote:Did you not have much or any on the ground yesterday? Heck, I thought it would be at least ankle deep there by now!tidd66 wrote:Snowing full on in Gore now just starting to settle. Ground very wet though.

And the sun keeps shining in Chch. Hard to tell what Chch will get in a southwesterly flow - might stay sunny all weekend or we me get blasts of wintry showers. MetService is predicting coastal showers from Sunday, but by then they suggest that South Island snow levels should be rising. Banks Peninsula should be more in the firing line than Chch.Snowing like crazy in Omarama again, big sticky Last-Year-type snow. Expect lines to fall down again
Could also be unusually low-level snow on the West Coast since the flow is southwesterly not southerly - already only 3C at noon in Haast with recent precipitation.

Okay. Bob McD is quoted as expecting the action to head out to sea and bypass Christchurch, although southern Canterbury may get something. Dang. Maybe later in the season you guys might cop your fair share.tich wrote:And the sun keeps shining in Chch. The guy who runs fencepost, reckons snow to 200 metres in canterbury on sunday and to to low levels on monday.Gary Roberts wrote:Okay. by the time the flow turns southerly enough for canterybury to be in the firing line, the next high is geting much closer , so I would think only light show showers for coastal areas/ inland ranges, and banks peninsular (snow would be expected since the flow is originating from so far south)
but i am no expert

I Actually wasnt expecting that belt of showers this morning as I assumed I would wake up to a fine clear start to the day.
I was working at C.A.P this morning when the temperature would have been about 2-3C with rain and a hint of sleet slapping on the jacket,so there would have been some flakes on the port hills at the time.
If showers can spill over like it did this morning then I wouldnt be ruling out something of interest.
CRT are going for snow showers to sea level here at this stage on Monday and possibly overnight on Sunday so lets hope
Must be about time for those snow dances down in Dunedin .
Edit.. skies closing in from the W-SW and looks like abit of precipitation in it too.
Cheers
Jason.

Temperature is on the drop here with a breezy W-SW wind and looking a real dull whity grey to the W-SW.
I also noticed some weak CU forms going up under this upper level cloud, also a few strikes ranged on this side of the alps.
Hmm this is interesting .
Cheers
