Easterly?
Not here in Central ChCh. We just had a brief shower come through from the norwest. Nack to NW Arch cloud now.
This low forming might get interesting....

We were caught in an interesting thunder and rainfall event in Upper Hutt this afternoon captured by my WX Station.... here at:
http://home.clear.net.nz/pages/andrew.c ... e/SVWX.htm
Some large claps of thunder and a very high rain rate (coud be a new record), with 8.8mm falling in less than 15 minutes...
Always unusual to hear thunder in Upper Hutt, does anyone more learned know why the Hutt Valley misses out?

Hopefully this weather continues frequently through the month - these downpours are great!
I also see Waiuku stations only have 6mm this month.

We got 16.4mm in Grey Lynn!
Looking ahead, next system with chance for thunderstorms for NZ will be at the end of the week, these mainly in the west of the SI but some possible in the west of the NI.

Something happend around 4pm when all that lower CU turned to precipitation delivering a brief shower.
Change on its way up doesnt look promising.

Looked pretty stormy over the Alps (snowy looking clouds) and far the southwest (about Hunter Hills) as I was coming back into Chch late this afternoon. Some cb type clouds well to the north too.

No more forecasts for Canty storms.
Just showers now, looking at Chch and rural forecasts.

That's because you need to check the "Summer Time/DST Time in Effect" box under board preference in control panel.

Drove through some heavy on the way home at 5:30pm.
Well, it looks like thunderstorms in Cny are a miss today. That's the way it is in this game. You don't always get it right as many of you know. I see Dunedin has had some heavy rain in the last few hours so a good whomp of wind and rain is likely in CHCH soon.
Cheers
Paul

Hmm that low sitting off the coast inbetween Timaru and Ashburton is looking interesting, some definate wrapping around going on there even some red now showing
.
The cold front should give it a nudge when it gets closer not sure what will happen then, just wait and see.
Cheers
Jason.

Went for a run up the Crater Rim track tonight, no sign of anything nasty unless you are up in the mountains...the Waimak was looking nice and high at lunchtime! Always strange seeing a river in flood when the sun has been out for a week, after 10 years of living in ChCh I still find a nevelty in that!
Maybe a flick of rain or something from that low tonight? That Norwest shower mid afternoon certainly came over quick so it must be pretty rough out there somewhere

Cool...the 9pm M/S radar shows a very distinct "eye" for the low off the Timaru/Ashburton coast...neat!
