I only got 17mm from 5pm - 7am. I had my scanner on overnight and heard many reports of arcing powerlines, trees down on roads, and severly flooded roads (with water so deep and rough that divers were briefly considered for mounting a rescue operation!)
The latest satellite image shows the cyclone to have fallen apart overnight, and quite a way off to the east. It's very calm here, albeit with a low barometer reading of 996mb and still trending downwards.

it is still packing a real punch....
it it was closer to the Northland, then it would do damage!
Southerly winds here now, up to 25 knots, increasing, and drizzle
see

for a station closet to it at the moment

It has been a humid calm morning (dp20C) but a southwesterly with drizzly rain is just starting to kick in. Cricket is defanetly a washout. Series win to NZ.
Over 100mm fell in many areas yesterday. For the whole rainfall event(most of it in the 24hrs Saturday) Auckland airport 111mm, Whitianga 128mm, New Plymouth 109mm. I notice New Plymouth's February rainfall is 409mm. Auckland 271mm. Ofcoarse, the month is not quite finished yet.

Some unhappy Efreekorners around, but they will claim that the NZ team only won by default...NZstorm wrote:It has been a humid calm morning (dp20C) but a southwesterly with drizzly rain is just starting to kick in. Cricket is defanetly a washout. Series win to NZ.![]()
We've had 23mm since midnight Friday/Saturday. It's looking spectacularly green around here right now.Over 100mm fell in many areas yesterday. the next station in the line of fire, whakatane
notice the barometer dropping real fast!
(note, the rain does not work on that station (cows ate the cable) and the windspeed reports bad values at times (he needs to replace a cable with a shielded one)

I was hoping to wander down to Eden Park today to watch the Cricket but with some light rain about that looks doubtful. 10am Radar dose not look to bad so may be a game might still happen.
Looks like some heavy rain for Bay of Plenty + East Cape area today.
That trough East of Australia this morning has a lot of Lightning coming of it so might be one to watch.
Looking forward to the big high later in the week.

I can just see Eden Park through the drizzle from here. Anyway, we don't want the game to go ahead, better to have the guaranteed series win.may be a game might still happen.
It looks to have stopped raining on the Coromandal. 200mm at Castle Rock and 290mm at The Pinnacles. And Hunua area got 150mm. Would be a good day to look at the Hunua falls. (I was up there two weekends back).

Ah well... in the words of Jim Hickey "She's a Gone-burger", but at least it did leave a bit of an impression to the NI.
Thank goodness I don't live in the North Island but I do pity the people who suffered loss in the NI from this very unusual February, weather -wize!
Boring day here weather-wize considering the situation
I was morris dancing out at the vintage settlement of Barhill today.
Overcast skies with drizzly weather but when we danced the sun came out, well very briefly
Remaining mostly cloudy for the rest of the day but it is clearing up now, boringly despite a slow rising low barometer.

I dont think there's a story here - you missed the pun, but thats OK. And my previous point is that it not hard to pick the right model to go with when, about 48 hours out from the event, they all say the same thing. IIRC you were the only person expecting (or was that wanting?) the cyclone to move south instead of southeast. Perhaps your credit should be extended to the modellers?Manukau heads observer wrote:whats your problem tony?
get it off your chest man!
I mean, i give credit were its due (i think they did a good job with this cyclone, in their predicitons, but i also criticism the met service when its due to!)
whats the story here?

Hi
yes, I was wrong, my bad, but, yes, it would have been exciting for it to come closer
I like exciting wild weather
is there anything wrong with that?
(but yes its not good too when people/property are hurt/damaged)
but, also TC's can do unpredictable things, especialy as they become extra tropical, so i think it was prudent to watch it very closely and not sit back and expect it to do as the models say exactly
surely someone must be on my side with that?
