I have been in 40 and its too hot for me!
(Somewhat) funny story.
Me and my family went on a holiday to south Australia for a holiday, my parents originally wanted to travel to sydney etc but thought it would be too hot so we booked accommodation and planned everything for southern Australia.
While there we experienced the hottest heat wave in (10? years?)
I think it was around 41-44 for a few days, and places like sydney were around mid twenties
I remember watching a forecast and a small town somewhat close reached 47.

Phew what a warm night eh  , down to 23C last night and still 25C at midnight incrediable :-) .
Theres going to be some big records broken today, and possibly a busy day for the fire bridgade if the heat keeps going up.
Up to 34.2C here now at 12:30pm.
We had several power outages here last night from Kaiapoi northwards including woodend, was outside when the sky flashed blue then the power went out followed by a loud buzzing humm from out on the street.
Power was out for 2 hours and again for 10 minutes this morning, and still something smells like burning wires this morning.
Good day for cooking free range eggs on the bonnet of your car  maybe not 0_o .
Cheers
Jason.

I just went for an hour long walk in the midday sun, hardly any shade...

Not voluntarily, of course.

This temperature is exceptionally high for sure.

NO signs of high cloud developing anytime soon and still the sun not at its warmest at this time of the day so long as that wind doesnt change to the NE maybe add a couple more to the temperature within next couple hours. The wind direction will determine whether we get any higher. CLoud not an issue.

Good thing the dew points are so low...thus keeping RH down...otherwise, anything over about 16C for a dewpoint in these temps would make things "feel" (via Heat Index) A LOT hotter....thank you, mr(mrs?) n'wester... :D

EDIT: Thought this might help:

http://www.crh.noaa.gov/jkl/?n=heat_index_calculator

(basically, when the RH gets above 40%, you increase your risk of fatigue/heat exhaustion/heat stroke)

Even takes deg C for calculations...funny that.... :B

Don't walk around in bare feet people, concrete on the porch is insanely hot on the feet, and the wood in the lounge feels EXACTLY the same, nuts eh?

Yes i saw that and weather watch expects temperatures to keep rising for another 2 hours. It is now 36.5degrees at jeffs and at gary's station in rolleston it is now 37.5 degrees and it says "heat danger". This is quite amazing!

36.5 at Jeffs, and I'm off to town, If I don't get back I've melted. 39 in Barrington... is that believable? I'm right next to it

Gary- are you able to comment on your station set up? How accurate do you say it is, you've just hit 38 degrees pal!

I'd say its pretty bang on considering other stations are there or there abouts.Being slightly more inland as well a little more extreme

I've wondered about that. Doesn't explain the airport consistently being colder than everyone else though- currently 33. Unfortunately this is the station they apear to use for TV news.
