Re: General July Weather
looking like July could be quite a dry one for many places with another big high looking like its going to plant its backside over NZ after this quick burst of rain late week/early week.
Not complaining though. dry winters are better than wet ones like we had last winter

The temp stayed in single digits all day, the cloud cover really kept it cool.

Re: General July Weather
Very cold here after some thick high cloud moved in after the frost this morning, Currently 0.9 degrees with the lawn still covered in ice. Should warm up once this high cloud moves out east later this afternoon.

Re: General July Weather
I see Timaru airport only got to 7 degrees today a long way from their forecast high of 14c.
Managed to get to 5.7 here once the sun came out.

GFS 2000ft wind chart for Sunday afternoon showing the prefrontal low level jet over the lower NI at 60kts! A good rain producing wind for the ranges. Could be 200mm on Mt Taranaki.

Re: General July Weather
The rain could be bad news for some of our ski fileds. I think the lower slopes of Coronet Peak would be most at risk of catching rain, how far east will the heavy rain come ? Snow levels should come down on Monday.

Re: General July Weather
Yes this event isn't much good for the peaks. Looks like if there is any snow on the peaks, it will be the wet slushy type.

Re: General July Weather
Hopefully Mt Dobson is far enough east to miss most of the spillover rain as there very little snow up there now. This is shaping up to be the second bad season in a row. Need a wet cold easterly for heavy snow up there something which we haven't seen for a couple of years.spwill wrote:The rain could be bad news for some of our ski fileds. Re: General July Weather
Yes, a mild day here reaching 17C. Thick clouds to the west so must be pouring down over there.
Haven't lit the fire yet, first time since we've been back.

Re: General July Weather
Can't speak for others over here but it hasn't really been as heavy today as I had expected, although the grand total is now at 90mm since lunchtime yesterday. Still early days in this rain event however.

Re: General July Weather
Still a decent start to the event. Although not looking at bad in that area now. GFS has it more of affecting Buller and Northwest Nelson it would seem for the SI.Dale Small wrote:Can't speak for others over here but it hasn't really been as heavy today as I had expected, although the grand total is now at 90mm since lunchtime yesterday. Re: General July Weather
Well I can add another 140mm to the above, it was fair flogging down earlier, almost approaching the rates which caused the flood events last month. Raleigh Creek seems to be flowing quite freely.. which means the council have actually done something right! (tongue in cheek haha).. so I guess accumulative totals so far have been pretty close to spot on!

Re: General July Weather
I think the worst of this system for areas north of Greymouth is still to come with the secondary band later tonight. Could be some very large isolated amounts with this. I see Takaka area approaching 90mm there now with 24 hours of heavy rain to continue there.
