Re: General December Weather
Suprised how wet it is at home now, after a mostly dry day at north new brighton.
The radar shows that convergence line quite clearly though.

Cold day here. wrapped up sitting in front of the fire, whereas yesterday, running around in T shirt and shorts.
No wonder people get ill, with this type of contrasts in weather

Re: General December Weather
That's sad
Whilst you Auckland folk are enjoying all the thunderstorms, all we get here is just 'Clagg' in weather situations like this.

Re: General December Weather
Up to 36mm now and could easily top 40mm going by the radar, cold now too with only 9C.
What I'm finding interesting is these systems of late seem to effect both the Canterbury area and the west coast with decent rain at the same time?

General December Weather
Something on our farm just got hit by lightning. Praying it wasn’t the cows paddock. Thunder was between 1 and 2 seconds from the flash.

Re: General December Weather
Getting plenty of what I would call close CG (less than ten seconds) and lots of lightning. Storm has just exploded. Doesn’t look much on radar.

Re: General December Weather
64mm here with another storm to come through. I think I’m in a chance to beat my daily rainfall record too, which is 79mm.

Re: General December Weather
Got woken up by the first of 2 house-shaking kabooms around 1:54am, followed by some heavy downpours and more distant lightning. 28mm here so far since about 1am.
Below are Blitzortung's CG's for the 12 hrs to 5am this morn.

Re: General December Weather
I should add I got 17mm before midnight so 81mm over night with more to come. Shame the 24 hour period is midnight to midnight and not any given 24 hour periodjamie wrote:64mm here with another storm to come through. I think I’m in a chance to beat my daily rainfall record too, which is 79mm.

Re: General December Weather
The next potentially interesting storm set up is in the South Island on Saturday afternoon. A supercell possible on the Canterbury plains given 6km bulk shear upto 50knots.
The threat of elevated storms for northern NZ late Saturday appears to be subsiding.
