Yes, so is Steven Graham's with lightning aplenty away to the west off the South Island. Should be a good light show if flying at the present time to Australia
I wonder if those Cbs ,sorry CNs, have (yet again) "Destination Auckland " stamped to them

Yesterday would have been the coldest winter day so far for SE Australia.
The thickness at Melbourne was 5240, possibly as cold as you think it could get at that lattitude.
All that cold air will keep the Tasman Sea unstable for a couple of days.
Thunder and hail on the way for western areas and the south of the country.

A nice day here and pleasant even though it's mostly cloudy... 15c and a faint WNW
Up to 15mm expected here tonight as the front moves through...
Is Thor going to deliver a THUNDERY THURSDAY on his day??
Fingers crossed anyway.
Mostly fine tomorrow and warm. Showery northwesterlies on Saturday
and then sunny spring southwesterlies from Sunday-Tuesday, but few isolated showers persist from Auckland northwards

Here's where I read the article when trying to search for the jolly thing!
(I just realised it's quite old)
http://www.gisuser.co.nz/documents/Othe ... rticle.htm
It quotes,
"The Americans have had a detection network for about 12 years and they're presently upgrading to the same standard as in New Zealand"
So I assume it's already been upgraded as the article is old.
Still dry here, but lots of sferics on the radio

i see ruahpehu has had 15cm of new snow overnight, and they should get more over the next few days too
1.8m base their now
it is surprsingly warm considering the air mass started as cold air over tasmania...i guess though its originated more from NSW/queensland border, and the warm western tasman sea has helped too

Freezing level should drop to about 800m tomorrow night over in OmaramaGary Roberts wrote:The springlike weather continues here in Omarama and the Mackenzie, with dense cloud and light rain, with cool-to-warm temperatures.
What are the prospects for action weather here in the next few days? Good, or fading?
What a great day here too! Thundery showers cleared to mostly fine conditions with light NW, 16c Tropical-like cloud build too

Might see Thor unleash some fireworks to the west tonight but apart from that ....bugger all.
Saturdays/Sunday's cold blast may be a fizzer now - blame global warming and the Tomato Glasshouse effect !!!!

I don't mind this "inaction" at all.
