Thanks for the help setting it up Ricky, I am charging a UPS to take up in the morning, I gather you got loggng going? Should be interesting to see if it survives.
Yippee! Great stuff Charles. Good to see the Oneroa site back online. _b

Yes, we're all preparing for the inevitable power-blackouts as well. :-(

I just called MetService to ensure I had it right before publishing it. This is crazy...if this comes true this could be major for Auckland.

yes i agree, it's going to be a very interesting one to watch, can't wait to see it roll in on the live weather cam, although probably won't see it for long with how this is looking.

also like the forecasts you do on your site and have told several people already about it.

Not so calm now, have had 23 knots and my wind gear is barely above the level of the shelterbelts. Hopefully the power will stay on so you guys can watch from afar

6:24am , raining here already!
wow, sure looks good on the sat image
forecast maps show that the SW wind on the back end, if it does end up as it deep as forecasted over gisborne, will be damaging for the Auckland area!!!

Yeah sorry about that, don't know whats going on - any ideas? Those graphs were flatlined about half an hour ago too, but forced an upload to fix it.
(it might have something to do with my connection at present - reduced to dial up  )

Barometer is starting to drop more quickly here now, showing ~ -5 hPa over 3 hours and the wind is picking up.. Rain becoming heavier, ~5mm/hr now.. I've been on the roof putting some extra guying on the anemometer pole so hopefully it stays up and the roof on! the batteries and genny are ready if need be, fingers crossed!

latest sat pic is showing that its going through a rapid deepening now....start to spiral more and more!
and to me its tracking to take it right over auckland and head for hawkes bay and not gisborne....

Hey, I'm no expert... But....

I really don't like what I'm seeing here. A large mass of warm moist air from the Coral Sea being circled by cold Antartic air. Foregive me if I'm wrong, but when they mix all that moistures going to drop... Fast!

At least it's moving quite quickly, which could be the saving grace.

Man I hope this doesn't do what I fear it may. To me it seem's it's deepening more than anticipated and it's course is now looking more South than anticipated.

Others opinions please.

It is definitely the silence before the storm. There is no wind at all at the moment, looking out from the office of the Titirangi Firestation.

We all have had storm alert messages to be aware of major wether events over the next 48 hours.

Low hanging waterlogged clouds but no rain at this stage. Will post events as matters unfold.

For me it loads at certain periods and seems to not load at other times.
