Re: WINTERY BLAST STARTING FRIDAY 8TH
Marlborough, Canterbury
Showers, but rain north of Christchurch this afternoon, with snow lowering to near sea level. Showers easing tomorrow and clearing inland.
The above quote from metservice suggests snow showers possible after dark. 4.1 degrees now at jeffs, lowest temp today so far.
Temperature not wanting to get any lower than 4 degrees and dont think we will get much if it does lower to near sea level like forecasted.
Sleety, Hail shower passing by now, quite heavy too. 3.9 degrees

Well this flow is a bit more vigourous than I expected. Good frequent hail and sleet showers at the moment

Re: WINTERY BLAST STARTING FRIDAY 8TH
good call, Razor...but I just don't see the temps dropping enough for us to see flakes...still too warm (3 or 4) in most places...we might get some isolated pockets of it, but it just doesn't seem to be widespread enough...the SW "chain showers" seem to be chugging right along....

Sleet and hail showers, many heavy, in the afternoon and evening.
Apart from that, nothing interesting.

Re: WINTERY BLAST STARTING FRIDAY 8TH
Went for a drive up the port hills to the lookout point and it was snowing, and quite a heavy, long snow shower at that. Its 3.2 degrees now at jeffs so it is definately going down now. Metservice still saying snow lowering to near sea level, we just need some decent lengthy showers. Just had a sleety shower before that had more snow than rain.
10 mins later now = 2.7 degrees. Maybe a chance if this keeps happening...

Re: WINTERY BLAST STARTING FRIDAY 8TH
Been showery here, this morning and late afternoon and evening but no hail or sleet.
Very wintry look with cold Cb's this afternoon. Lots of glaciated cloud and 'hailswaiths'

Re: WINTERY BLAST STARTING FRIDAY 8TH
Showers have eased back during the evening in Dunedin, just the odd sleaty hail shower passing through. Light snow cover in the higher hill suburbs I imagine, but above 300m, too cold to go for a look! Northern m'way is closed to towing vehicles.

Re: WINTERY BLAST STARTING FRIDAY 8TH
Yes it is, well showers clearing maybe hanging around Banks Peninsular and the southerlies easing. Dont know that it'll be frost material as conditions i dont think are forecast to be that calm to allow for it. Showers wise they are meant to clear, yes.

Re: WINTERY BLAST STARTING FRIDAY 8TH
Latest GFS showing another 10-11mm of precipitation probable, lets hope in which most of it falls to sea level. Im off to bed, maybe a dusting on the grass in the morning.

Re: WINTERY BLAST STARTING FRIDAY 8TH
Precipitation of light hail and sleet in central Chch; heavy enough to settle a little. 1.6C at Jeff's, so should be cold enough for snow.
