Re: Next NZ Weather Meet?
Of course I just unlock the gate & drive up when I'm there. As you might have noticed with the earlier picture I posted, I was up the radio mast at the site.
Each one of the turbines includes an inbuilt crane effectively for equipment replacement. Very interesting to watch them servicing them.
I would have liked to go, sadly it wasn't meant to be.

Yea, I was saying to Ricky it seems they have a rock crushing plant there too. A huge amount of work put into that place!Manukau heads obs wrote:thats a quarry....for the metal, for all the concrete they used in the foundations
I actually wouldn't mind going back there but taking my Mountain Bike so I can have a look at the other turbines....

Re: Next NZ Weather Meet?
was talking to someone who went on a guided tour of a wind turbine farm in wellington
the concrete base is much wider , than it is deep
hence the big flat area around the turbine (concrete just under that dirt)

I think they are looking into the possibility... May have even started the long tedious resource consent process.Richard wrote:Oh OK so they are still erecting new ones are theyManukau heads obs wrote:thats a quarry....for the metal, for all the concrete they used in the foundations

I have a vague recollection that there are more planned, but have no idea where they are at in the greater scheme of things.

Re: Next NZ Weather Meet?
it was amazing that it was only 10 knots of wind that day,but they seemed to be producing power OK....the coolant oil at the bottom cooler was warm (we are thinking that cools the cables running down from the top?)
anyone got info on the power output performance curve?

Re: Next NZ Weather Meet?
Certainly looks like a nice spot for a day out. Good views. Maybe a good spot to go to when a summer storm is firing up!
Wish I could have made it.
