Reports of snow settling inland from Waimate...WW forecasting snow to 600 metres overnight in Canterbury.Reason I rarely follow them.

Tipping point reached.. more snow than sleet falling now... temp half hour ago c. 1.5... and village fire alarm gone off

A non turnout. They were stood down not required before they actually turned out. Prob not weather related. Nev will be annoyed.

In there defence tha forecast states:
Heavy rain. Heavy snow develops to 600m. Southerlies (100% chance of precip)
Note "Heavy snow" not the the lowest level it will fall. Maybe slightly misleading, guess they will learn from this.

Was always going to be the case with snow falling at 300 metres at Methven etc to the south.

chch temp seems to be dropping quite fast now, 4.7 at airport...shadowing seems to be collapsing so much steadier rain as well

Darfield seems to be the lowest so far, my parents are in Kirwee and nothing there... yet...

Time to say good night but i will be up early hopefully currently snowing hard with temp at 1.4deg. settling now too.
