Re: USA 2016
A very small target area today so I think a lot of chasers would have been on that tornado.

Long range forecasting is depressing until after I depart
Leave for the airport in an hour or so. Willoughby arrived there a few hours ago.

Witnessed 5-6 Tor on streams today. Some of the footage doing the rounds is chilling showing just how destructive the winds associated with a tornado are.

Re: USA 2016
Good morning! Arrived into Dallas yesterday afternoon a bit behind schedule and chase partners flight from LAX with Delta was delayed by two hours.
So got out on the road by 5pm, massive boiling towers and Cb to the north into Oklahoma, nicely sheared and tilted updraft a bit closer too. Unbelievable tornadoes in southern Oklahoma! Too bad we didn't arrive another 4 hours earlier.
Headed NE towards Paris, TX... very green country... greenest I've seen NE Texas I think. Roads were not the most ideal but hit the tail end charlie and a wrapping up wall cloud from afar as darkness was setting in. Incredible updraft motion on this thing!
First day by Willoughby Owen, on Flickr
My chase partner Jason took this photo of it: https://www.flickr.com/photos/oreboundimages
Leaving Dallas shortly and will be on the road somewhere west of Austin in the hill country. Massive CAPE forecast today... dewpoints to a Darwin-like 75F and mixed-layer CAPE to over 4000j/kg. Storm motion should be slow at 10 knots and the SPC and Austin/San Antonio WFO bot talking up splitting supercells.

Very envious Willoughby! Hope you have a safe and sucess full time overy there.
Have just joined this forum, and my first time joining a forum like this. I know little about weather (particularly here in NZ) but do find it facinating and hope to learn a lot along the way. I have followed the US storm seasons the last few years though and I guess that's where my main interest lies
Some amazing footage has been put up from yesterday! Also see the twirl research team managed to get a pod in the path of one in sw ok.

Re: USA 2016
Just wondering what your thoughts are,
There's a debate going on again about the EF ratings
The Wedge that was by Sulphur OK was rated an the higher end of ef3 by the nws. Yet a DOW got windspeeds of 216mph 56ft above ground. If it hit a place with a ton of inferstructure would that have taken it into Prehaps ef5 territory? Its just hard to fathom that something with such high windspeeds could get rated 0-1 if it went on a track with nothing in its path. Didn't similar happen with El Reno?
Do you think the rating system should be amended or have another rating that reflects windspeed data?
The debate is on Jesse's page if anyone wants a look

We are in Wichita Falls overnight tonight after chasing cells in Texas this afternoon. Enjoyable, but nothing spectacular thus far.

Got caught up by a right-mover near Anson, Texas today. Nasty storm when it hit the boundary. We estimate 160+ km/h winds here, possible tornado / wide circulation or strong microburst. Flipped over semi in front of us... up the road roofs lifted into powerlines and then downed on the highway, two stock trucks flipped over with one flipped on it's top. They were and father and son in separate trucks. Absolutely stuffed now in Eastland TX for the night... more storms should roll over tonight around 3am. Taking a couple of days off and will head to New Orleans in the Bayou.
A bit earlier to the north:
