Another 8.3mm of rain overnight before clearing away to a nice sunny day.
Mild with some NW again this afternoon and some interesting lenticular forms. Today's maximum was 17.3C.

Looks like another active polar jet to affect country mid week with thunder in the western high country and gales in some parts.
WesternNorthIsland in with a thunder chance Thursday.

Pivotol weather gfs showing an Ef2 tornado possible over western north Island tomorrow pm front including Auckland. And decent sized hail for Canterbury 2cm.

Yes, my days will be out. Thursday for NI tornadoes, tomorow for Canterbury hail.

Interesting.. not quite getting what the models are suggesting? the upper air looks fairly warm tomorrow and there is no SW influence? Just E-NE i have tomorrow off to so if there is storms ill be able to chase though 🤔

I see there is going to be a build up of moisture/dew point with the NW flow, over the NI, providing good CAPE, along with a jet stream, for Thursday

That NE has turned it up in the last week or so here. Has it does in spring and summer.. yesterday i saw the clouds and there was CU around. Definitely more punch in the CU now

Another strong wind warning for the Canterbury High Country for the next couple of days, as you say Richard hope it isn't as brutal as last week as the Hurunui needs it like a hole in the head.

Wednesday afternoon looking quite good for Canterbury storms in a few aspects as a small low forms this side of the Alps, especially Chch/north with a gap in cloud cover, DP 9C and chance of an easterly with the dying NW but the upper air is only around -20C so maybe low-moderate risk. This going by the last GFS run, as it's currently updating.
