Plenty of thunderstorms around the Wairarapa yesterday, saw a few CG's but as expected pretty messy. Today looking similar, less heating but stronger winds aloft, and convergence zone looks to be further north than where I was yesterday

Not sure how many people work at Met Service on the evening shift. No one was watching the radar.
Good point, however one would think with a risk of severe thunderstorms that they may increase their monitoring during the risk period.

Are the triggers the same today as they were yesterday? Wind convergence?

Not as good as yesterday's set up.

The convergence today is in north otago/ south Canterbury. Mt peel might be a good spot again and timaru up to ashburton in evening.

Showers in Grey Lynn now.

Today's supercell potential looks to be eastern Wairarapa.

Mid Canterbury showing some shear but the moisture has cleared.

Looks quite impressive looking that direction. I see there's a PWS in Westmere that's already recorded 50 mm from the convergence line.

Yes, last contact I had with Paul was just before Christmas in 2017, he had retired at that point. Sadly I've seen/heard nothing since. His insight would certainly be a welcome addition to the forum.
