Yes the SW change looked to be arriving around 4pm which seems to be running a little late going by 4pm windy satellite.

The moisture lagging behind the initial SW change doesnt help thunder activity nor does the pre frontal cloud cover.
Definitely some much needed rain later coming in

Southerly went through here on time at 4pm but low cloud moving over with nothing much happening, sadly.
No rain with it but lots of rain to the south of here moving from the west to the east.

Coming onto rain now but nothing significant.
Here's a picture I took of the southerly arriving and the cloud prior to it looking towards Winchester.

Looks like some storm cells forming inland along the incoming upper trough and asociated colder change.
Any lightning being observed?

Just heard a very distant rumble of thunder to the TC area, probably up the Rangitata Gorge. I see the Blitz recorded it so it must of been a fork.

Rain radar showing weird beefy showers to the west of here. Am I right in thinking these are elevated showers rather than surface based? Hence the off look to them on the radar?

Heavy rain and hail approaching the tunnel from Ferrymead half an hour ago, short-lived though. Not sure where we are getting that 30mm from.

There could of been isolated hail around the place judging by the colours of the precipitation on the radar this afternoon.
Just an ordinary southerly change here this afternoon with just 1-5mm of rain to 10pm tonight, although it is raining outside now.
Fine morning but with increasing cloud from the west with a threat of an overthrow shower judging by the cloud.
20C was the maximum before the southerly change moved through at 4pm.
Had the AM radio on for sferics for most of the afternoon but only recorded one about 6:30pm which I think was a fork that came down around the TC area which is around the Rangitata gorge area. I noticed it on the Blitz recording system. Nothing else around the place.
I tend to think that MS and some other weather forecasters tend to over forecast thunderstorms these days, especially around Canterbury, especially with southerly changes.

Managed to get 8mm from this system, about what I expected, airport getting less than half of that. The most rain in sometime locally however. That takes it to 64mm for YTD.

Apologies team for being way out on those numbers, I'm just baffled lately by how much the model runs are well off with these systems🤔. Never used to be this inconsistent.

Anyway the radar depicted some heavy cells overnight and possible hail too, probably still is on that SSW chain line out there currently.
Just getting clipped by a heavy shower now in Belfast.
After this it's back to our friend the NW at different stages throughout the week, before another blast anzac weekend.

Prolonged heavy rain at 4am in Lyttelton, don't have a rain gauge but must have gone over 10mm for the night at least. Looks like the last of the rain now.

Another 7.6mm of rain overnight but it cleared away to become a fine and sunny day.
Only getting up to 14.9C because of the cold SW influenced wind from the NE from midday today.
With cold clear skies, tonight, there could be possible frosts in exposed areas before sunrise. 8-o

Minimum of -0.7 here in Amberley, so our first air frost of the year.

Stunning day with 18 degrees and no wind currently. Blue dome skies day. Started at 3 degrees locally this morning. Milder air moving back in for tomorrow. I see airport has got 0.2mm in last hour again. Must be something to do with the dew.
