it says 2754x600 but I can't see that image anywhere near that size. Disappointing really, as it looks like it's probably a great picture.

Anyone else having this problem? It says click on the image to zoom, that doesn't work, nor did the magnifying glass symbol.

Thanks for posting anyway Raikyn.

Lines of cloud (cloud streets ?) over the Plains yesterday morning.

Also uploaded a new panorama of Christchurch taken from the Port Hills on Tuesday morning: http://www.gigapan.org/gigapans/62172/

Wouldn't it just be gravity waves ? Clouds streets are on a much bigger scale I think ... :?:

That's why I wasn't sure - they were lower in altitude than other gravity waves clouds I've seen and seemed to be moving with the surface ENE wind along the lines.

Went out to Lake Ellesmere for a quick birding trip today and came across some cute lil' Wrybills ! <3

And a bit later I've managed to get a shot of a Grey Warbler. A shame a leaf came in front of the bird but it's usually so hard to get a decent picture of these tiny little shy bastards that I won't complain too much. ;)

Nice picturesque shot Ben! :D
Looks like Fibro Cumulus Mediocris to me with some scattered higher leveled altocumulus.

Interesting photo. You can see upper level instability in the cloud with the turrets. Its showing up on the IR satellite imagery as being colder than -30C. Maybe you could call this cirrocumulus.

I already thought of that but it doesn't look anything like it.....

It certainly has a cirrus unicus look to it however.

NZstorm wrote:Yes, it doesn't look like classic cirrocumulus at all. But I would tend to put it in that category rather than a form of cirrus as its showing elevated instability.
Yea I agree with that.

Its hard to put a certain "label" on it as it does show elevated convection but convection (eg: cumulus) is only supposed to be labeled a cumulus if its developed under 1 050 Meters........

I'm so bored waiting to know if I'll have a new job in Chch or not that I sometimes go for random drives, and today I ended up "chasing" some sort of a SW change, from Springston to the Ashworth Spit !
Might not look very spectacular but it kept me busy for a few hours, driving through a mother of a traffic on the SH1 and sitting for more than 1 hour on a "high" dune, waiting for the "shelf cloud" to come to me !

I've never heard of the "Ashworth Spit". I presume it is the Kaitorete Spit that bounds Lake Te Waihora/Ellesmere from the sea.

Not at all, otherwise I would write "Kaitorete Spit" and not "Ashworth Spit" don't you think ? [-X
The Ashworth Spit is on the northern side of the Ashley River Mouth, north of Waikuku Beach/south of Amberley. ;)

Sorry, Ben, my fault. I assumed that your photos were around Lake Ellesmere, where the majority of your photos have come from. Yes, from Springston To Ashworth Spit. Ashley river mouth. #-o [-X
