Yes, it is interesting that this rain band is coming down from the north but we have surface winds from the WSW here.

Re: General May Weather
Rain is falling much heavier out this way than in town, so the SE flow must be creating a sheltering affect from the penninsula.
5mm out here so far, by the way the other topic subtropical low should really be part of these postings as its the same low system just not very tropical here.
Keeping eyes peeled for the wintry blast end of week

Should be a short blast but I haven't checked the models yet for today.
There's too many annoying anticyclones around at the moment.

Re: General May Weather
Hardly a drop since around 2pm here with the sheltering affect happening over CHCH once again. Becomes all too familair. We have reached 100mm to the year to date now!
Only 5mm today in which 4.5mm fell before 2pm.

sat image sequence shows better looking stuff still to move in
and the low SE of Otago might move north enough to reach Canty?

Been mainly drizzly rain, Brian, the first recordable rain so far here for the month.
Good stuff this rather than the heavy stuff they got up in the Nelson area today.

Noticed on some skifield webcams that snow was lying around the 1500 metre level with the heavier precipitation

Re: General May Weather
Looking at the regional weather stations, Ashburton is at 22mm today, Rangiora at 23mm and here in Christchurch a misley 5mm! No more than drizzle today and the bulk falling this morning. Just when I thought the weather was closing in over the city on the radars, it moves further inland and away from the city so must be the sheltering affect. Need more rain than this!

Re: General May Weather
Off and on stuff here generally light but just had a brief spell of heavy rain on the roof, we must be on the edge where it starts away from the penninsula.
9mm here now and the rain is straight down no wind at all.

Re: General May Weather
I hope so! We have continued to miss the bulk of the rain here with just 0.5mm since midnight so now only 6mm from yesterday and today compared to Rangiora with the 29mm.Quite a difference.Manukau heads observer wrote:much heavier rain band heading towards CHCH/Canty in the new hour or so

Re: General May Weather
there is no missing this incoming rain band
and its relatively slow moving too
should be an hour to 1.5 hours of moderatly heavy rain, guessing 15 to 20mm from it alone
