Re: General August Weather
Just 4mm of showers here today. One was heavy/squally around 4.30pm but otherwise rather uninteresting...

Re: General August Weather
There was a defined circle in the vicinity of the rakaia radar the other day, so I'd say they will be aware of it.
Normally they post up on social media about technical issues, but nothing as such yet.
Only scratching 1-2mm in town today, while other areas got next to nothing.
Early next week has a good drink on offer though, we are going to need it as it looks like the roaring 40s are making a return for late August into early September.

Re: General August Weather
Light rain overnight continuing into this morning and easing away from about 2:15pm but remaining rather cloudy.
Back onto rain this evening with a grand total of 6.8mm for today but nothing showing up on the Canterbury Rain radar, near Rakaia.?
Today's maximum was 12.5C.

Re: General August Weather
Looks like that front out in the Tasman will cross Auckland late tonight or early morning with chance thunder. The airmass looks reasonably unstable over Auckland tonight with the lapse rate about 7C.
EU showing a cb blow up over Northland this afternoon by 2pm. Dewpoint at Kaitaia airport is currently 13C.

If the air was more moist here we would see some afternoon development around here.

Re: General August Weather
those thunderstorms yesterday were very pulsy...you could see how on the rain radar how they would develop very quickly ...but then fizzle quick too

... this has to be rare for here - low risk of “damaging tornadoes” tomorrow afternoon ... chasing from the bedroom window under lockdown 🌪 ...

"Is the radar at Rakaia playing up again as we have 6.8mm of rain here in Geraldine today but nothing showing up on the radar except for a cluster around the Ashburton area?"
Haven't heard back from them yet.
It has come all over foggy here at the moment after a bit of a sunny, mild morning with low stratus clouds.
