it seems like the hook echo has lost its strength as it nears the coast.

Another lot of lightning active Cbs moving in West of Northland now..
What a great grandstand view of the earlier thunderstorms from here on the roof in Grey Lynn, in a warm light breeze under clearing sky while almost continuous lightning ran from horizon to horizon only a few km to the east!

Great photo's guys =D> =D> , looks like the classic thunderstorms for up north instead of the more common embedded ones.
Its times like these i think another tornado has touched down somewhere, definatly as waterspouts offshore i would imagine looking at those radars.

weak storm to my north west at the moment. seeing the odd flash and low frequency distant rumble.

scrap that thought. Just saw a doozy anvil crawler streak across the sky. so not weak by any means

I never heard any thunder at all last night. Lots of distant spherics heard on AM radio, but otherwise it was a bust for me.

I'm pleased others had a great night and hope it wasn't a case of me being so bone tired I slept through something great.

We'll have to see what happens today regards convection but the central North Island looks the high risk region for some diurnally driven afternoon thunderstorms/small hail.

I call it the Mt Albert look when it looked like that in that suburb all the time in the early 1990s,its in an unstable westerly flow.

A bit cool for thunder today over much of the NI so far with cloud cover, showers, westerlies. Storm on the east side of the Ranges over southern HB currently.

it seems like the Cb's dont have the height that they could have, too. sounding seems to confirm this.

A scattering of low CAPE cb's today producing squally showers for Auckland. Weather too cool across the North Island today to allow thunderstorms to develop. Also a lack of a boundary to push the air up.

Hi all, this thread was an interesting read, as this weather relates very much to what I experienced first hand, in the form of a mini tornado!!! I had to take cover as glass showered an area over 100m x 75m, and smashed house windows, destroyed a solar hot water system and damaged a crop of 5500 hydroponic tomato plants beyond recovery (luckily all was insured!). No one was hurt luckily.

Glass shards also pierced the roof's of 2 utility sheds (made of coloursteel) and the roof of a house. I thought I'd post an album of photos showing some of the damage done. This was in the Drury area. It occurred around 10.30am Monday morning:

About 2 kms down the road is Davies rd, and a property there with modern glasshouses suffered even worse damage:

Insane weather!!! o_O
