Raining in Wellington. There was a line of cumulus clouds earlier on close to Wellington South coast.

-1C at Christchurch airport already, Metservice had us down for a 2C minimum - perhaps the cloud cover has disappeared alot quicker then they predicted

Re: General June Weather
Looks like we're still on track here for my station to break its high pressure record on Fri/Sat, GFS showing 1039. My record in nearly 10 years is 1036.1 hPa

Re: General June Weather
Brian and Ricky's record highest pressures in the past 15-16 years could also be under threat. They recorded 1038.9 hPa and 1038.6 hPa respectively in early Sep 2008, as did Willoughby/Jamie with 1039.0 hPa.
Not sure what the highest official reading is though…?

Re: General June Weather
I asked Metservice on Twitter and all they told me was the highest 9am reading on record at Auckland Airport is 1040.6 hPa... don't think it will get much past 1038 hPa looking at current modelling.

Re: General June Weather
Clear calm night here at this time of year would usually result in a light frost but none today, only made it down to 3C

Re: General June Weather
There was no feed of very cold dry polar air with the incoming high. Frost free here so far this year.
Above average temperatures for NZ next week and the weather turning more unsettled.

Re: General June Weather
What I'm interested to see if get a gradual cooling of the highs and lows as the period progresses as the sunshine each day can't compensate for the heat lost each night.

I think the coldest morning of the year so far for Auckland with some frost for the usual places but short of a frost here.

-3 for the second day running in Halswell. Certainly living up to the cold frosty high we expected. Looks milder next week with a NW flow. Death knell for school holidays skiing I fear

Re: General June Weather
Not looking great for them in the short term .Coronet Peak has been making snow so able to open. GFS shows cold temperatures and some snow Thursday next week. I think the longer range pattern is looking more westerly which in July should be a more favourable pattern for ski fields.

Re: General June Weather
The NW wind has arrived which I wasnt expecting till at least tomorrow, so nice having a warm wind after so many frosty days.
