Re: General March Weather
Looks a nice cold unstable system mid week for the South Island and west of North Island. A bit early for details but looks like thunder/hail in the west and south and possibly east.

Yep, same here Brian. Had to get the tanker in today, which is a first for us. Not even 1mm so far this month, 8.5mm last month and 45mm in Jan.

That's terrible Nev, less than 10mm in 1 and 2/3 months! Crazy low figures for this part of the country....and so persistent tooNev wrote:Yep, same here Brian. Had to get the tanker in today, which is a first for us. Not even 1mm so far this month, 8.5mm last month and 45mm in Jan.

Re: General March Weather
The westerly belt is pushing forward each passing week, convection will eventually take over eventually into winter unless something from the north comes down,is unusual as now cyclogenis should have started in the tasman.

Oops sorry, forgot about the 3mm we got in early March, so 3.9mm for this month, or just 12.4mm over the last 7 weeks.David wrote:That's terrible Nev, less than 10mm in 1 and 2/3 months! Re: General March Weather
Lots of distant sfericals from thunderstorms away to the SW of the country, tonight.
Might be a flash or 2 in the early hours with very heavy rain, there.
Shame the rain won't last to up north, where they need it.

Re: General March Weather
Amazing display for Thunder and Lightning last night here in Queenstown. Started at roughly 12am and continued through to 5am. First time i have seen and heard such powerful thunder here in Queenstown. Im guessing the mountains help to increase the sound!

I reckon that will be right, will help to project/bounce the sound around
same thing happens here with steep hills around
but in the USA midwest where it is flat as, thunder is not as good sounding

Re: General March Weather
It has not rained in such a long time up here in these parts (will post the total rainfall amounts for the FN region tomorrow) I have almost forgot what rain feels like falling from the sky, still...
Autumn has made it's presence known here in part's of the region - with it's various shades and hues of yellow and orange.

Re: General March Weather
Up to 26 again here with gusty NW. I see gusts up to 98km/h at the airport. Very windy in Wellington watching the test on TV. 500 Kg roller was moved along the ground, the helmet behind the keeper went for four from the wind. Groundsman got pulled 20m along the ground when he was holding onto the covers earlier. INSANE! The Tv commentators reckon gusts around 130km/h to 140km/h. I know at least 110km/h there as MS showed this earlier.
Anyhow back home and some big bubbling CU's just south of the city that I can see out my window, not too far away at all. I have taken pics that I will post later. Looked at the 4pm radar and there doesnt look like there is something just out to sea to the SE. Interesting...

Re: General March Weather
Horray. gone SW here now.
More SE later and a very huge temperature drop of a couple of degrees
Not a cloud in the sky except for a bit of one over to the NW.
Bit hazier too
