Doesn't look likely, Like always during a SW event the showers are well out to sea and will bypass North Otago,South and most of Mid Canterbury only to flow inland from Rakaia northwards.

Mix of sunshine and passing clouds here but cold with 4.9 degrees.

Radar shows the first real line of showers to hit chch from the south in about 20-30mins. The question is - what will it fall as...

Yeah the 300km radar shows how its lining up abit better now coming onto the coast at a better angle.
Certainly an increase in cloud now and those winds very strong at times, currently 7C but that wont take much to drop once the activity arrives.

It's absolutely freezing outside now. Those clouds coming over from the coast are quite dark looking and more fluffy white clouds to the south.

2.5C right now. Today's max was 3.3C at 4am. Still snow showers coming, one overhead presently. Breeze is still mercifully gentle.

Interesting mix of graupel and flakes during each shower. I would describe the ratio of flakes to graupel being like the ratio of popped and unpopped corn in a pot where you haven't had the heat up enough.

Sunshine and passing clouds here, and in Ashburton today.
Mean wind, strong enough to rock the parked car at times.
5.0 degrees here now.

I like how when the showers hit land they intensify, good signs i feel.
Still dry here just about clipped the hail shafts from that last one, but the next lot looks more in line for here.

Obviously the airport is getting nothing (too far west) as its 7 degrees still there, way too balmy Need that temp to plummet!

Prolonged hail and show shower in Cracroft, settling thick on the ground. Pretty sure I also saw lightning, but wind was too loud to hear if there was thunder
