Im looking at tomorrows thunder/hail chance. seems to be looking at a low to moderate risk for me.
Good instability and nice cold upper levels.. better charge the camera batterys up!

Re: General February Weather
that Northerly airstream we had certainly dragged down tropical DP's today
only some mist here....and to think a cooler change coming..but its going to push out this airmass instead of interacting with it and making it rain out some of the moisture
having said that though, there is a bit of rain with the frontal boundary that is approaching
and some rain bands over inland northland..

Spenidng a few days in Auckland soon - Thurs 27 to Mon 3 March. Forecast for Thursday not looking great, hopefully will improve. Not interested in the 6+ day versions. A friend almost cancelled a trip to Hawkes Bay when the outlook for this weekend was rather poor 5-6 days out - I suggested that the forecast would change, and it certainly did.

I can't see any model predicting a wet day on Thursday, so I don't know where Metservice got that prediction from!RWood wrote:Spenidng a few days in Auckland soon - Thurs 27 to Mon 3 March. Forecast for Thursday not looking great, hopefully will improve.
Refreshing temps here today after yesterday's weather - currently 21C.

Re: General February Weather
The forecast for Auckland hasn't been moderated yet. It has just been dragged into the 5 day forecast from what it was yesterday in the extended computer generated forecast. You'll notice that they update the rural forecast area first then align it with the city forecasts after. If you go into the Auckland rural right now it says Mainly Fine light winds (updated 10:22am) so that will be reflected in Auckland City forecast in the next hour or so when they get to that.

some bloody rain would be nice! Weather display has my drought conditions at 440 today. Steadily climbing and with no rain in the forecast it will only continue to climb.

Well that was short lived. Not sure where that came from. Still dusty but no way near as bad.

Saw it in Metservice early this morning - radically altered a few hours later (looking at the 5-10 day range)David wrote:I can't see any model predicting a wet day on Thursday, so I don't know where Metservice got that prediction from!RWood wrote:Spenidng a few days in Auckland soon - Thurs 27 to Mon 3 March. Re: General February Weather
Had a fine and sunny weekend tramp up the Hawdon Valley Arthurs pass, Sat was vey hot(29C) and sunny but with a vey strong NWer bulding to gale over night (not fun in a tent) with a little spill over rain. Today was sunny and cold with fresh snow on the tops and a cold strong Westerly.
Shocked at the lack of bird life since last up there, DOC did a full valley 1080 drop in Dec but have never seen such low bird numbers after one before.

Nice photo melja
Ends up the dead possums feed the rats, they in turn breed flat out while there's heaps of food, when they've cleaned the carcass out they turn to the birds.
back to a strong NW again here and 20deg
