Heaps of snow on the central NI. It is falling very fast. At 8.15 there was no snow on any webcams (hail at desert road summit) and by 8.30 everything was white on all cameras.

I suggest that event was straight line winds (squall) with the frontal passage.

Cold 11 degrees in Howick and fairly windy, with gusts 50-60 km/h.

Bean Rock in Auckland's Waitemata gusting to 120 km/h - a little more than at Manukau Heads.

Update: Bean Rock dropped down a little, Manukau Heads now up to 122 km/h, Tiritiri up to 130 km/h.

Yes, I was thinking the same thing.

Interestingly, at about the same time I was watching what resembled a horizontal funnel-cloud between here and the North Shore. It started to drop down, but its tail then to broke up, as did the rest of it shortly after.

Not in St Albans - have had hail on & off this morning. Can't see anything on Port Hills (well not on Surgarloaf eastwards anyway), Mt Herbert presumably coated, but obscured by cloud.

Brief but squally showers with small hail on the western side of Chch are bringing the temps down. Was 4.3C here a short time ago.

Stronger sun this time of year means more variation in temps, ie even in a cold outbreak it gets warmer when the sun comes out than in winter, though temperature drops a lot when a shower passes over.

Yes, that eased very quickly after that last line of showers went through.
I recorded a max gust of 71 km/h just before midday.
