The storm system did produce a tornado in California. The set up there looked more like a NZ style cold set up. The tornado was not predicted and there was no warning although it was EF1 damaging 20 houses. It would have been too small to show up on radar.
Sounding here for the tornado, very similar to what we see in NZ in the cold outbreaks in summer.

Check out the photos from the mid November tornado alley outbreak. Goes to show night time tornadoes can make spectacular photos.
