One the way home it snowed from just north of Kingston all the way to Athol with snow settling in the paddocks from Kingston down to Fairlight. Altitude about 350 meters
Quite alot lower than the 800m forecast. However, I believe the front has weakened considerably as it has moved onto the North Island, and now a big high is set to dominate NZ for quite some time. But with a 2.6C minimum in suburban Chch this morning, I guess there would've been frosts inland.
Reading this morning that Windflow Technologies wind turbine on Gebbies Pass was a casualty of the winds on Thursday.
Its trouble-plagued Gebbies Pass turbine on Banks Peninsula was badly damaged on Thursday night, with its blades and gearbox mauled by strong winds. The company said staff were adjusting controls on the machine during Thursday's fierce storm when a sudden change in wind direction ripped the gearbox and main rotor assembly from its mountings. They then fell to the ground below the turbine.
Sounds like they got caught out with the change from nor'west to southerly which must have been quite voilent up there.

They probably would of got caught out, Jeff. The southerly arrived here with a very strong gust so it would of likely of being the same up there plus the fact that Gebbies Pass would be like a bit of a wind tunnel.
