Well actually i was looking at this weknd and it's looking interesting could be rather messy this weknd for South Island with severe gales in the farr south I dunno what models look like for Saturday evening/sunday for T/S in Canterbury but perhaps you betta ahve a look at these Synoptics MS suggest fine weather don't know where they get that from.
Cheers

Yes Phil, I don't see much if any snow potential looking systems anytime soon for us chasers! I'm not sure on the really up high stuff like ski-fields etc, I guess they'll get some with the sw this weekend but no low down stuff for us. Could be some hail on Sat night / Mon morning here in Chch Jason but I don't think thunderstorms look likely unfortunatley.

Yes Foggy and C-nimbus, does look interesting for Thunderstorms this coming Saturday evening/night from Hamilton northwards. Hopefully something pulls off for you guys!

Cheers.

I doubt whether we'll get any (more) snow this season, but others don't agree. Seems to me as if we're sliding from autumn straight into spring. It hasn't even really been cold, and it's already July.

There'll always be snow falling on the high high country (1,000m+) but I'd be surprised if we get anymore below that, certainly below 600m. Possibly Lake Tekapo, Burkes Pass and the Lindis may, but anywhere else below those elev/alts probably won't, not in the Mackenzie.

Winter has been a bit of a dud so far.

My gut feeling tells me we will get some interesting cold weather in spring with a late start to summer.

I don't care to indulge in such speculation generally, but unless the El Ninoish flavour persists (ie index mostly a little negative), my gut feeling is that this spring might be quite different from the last 3, which have all featured some excess of W/SW unsettledness to a fair degree. Spring 2001 was quite different.

I don't think so down here. It has had the odd cold day but this weather is a bit of a nuisance with this annoying anticyclone around cradling the low just to the west of Auckland.
What we need is a good cold blast from the south rather than this pithy weather :) :D - bring it on - yes

Designer weather specialists should organize the next anticyclone to the south of Tasmania, block it for a while to allow the cold southerlies to develop a cold air weather event over NZ for the next month or so.
This will bring incredible snowfalls to the ski-fields ...and low and behold lots of money to our economy over the winter months.

Yes me too John this weather is really boring infact the only thing that will interest me is the prediction of hail Saturday night wow go the hail \:D/ .
I can't help it if i like disturbing weather i reackon some good blasts outta get evryone shivering iam hoping for 2-3days straight of snow now that would be something it sounds strange but most of the weather is strange at the moment anyway. 8-[ .
Cheers

Good dose of fog today. Cleared mid afternoon to let the sun through to heat the ground to cause more fog. Good ground level stuff early this evening.

More significant rain for the north, Tuesday/Wednesday?

Sunny around Akaroa this morning, with just a little early mist, and thin high cloud. But crossing over Hilltop and down into Little River, it was foggy :o (though only at the bottom of the valleys), and then variable cloud (low and high) until Chch, where it's now dull and murky with some light drizzle. (now that drizzle is no longer in the forecast for Canterbury :? )
