Though on the Sky weather channel the radar picture for ChCh is stuck on 10.30am yesterday. I see the Southland radar is back on track but there is nothing to see. Cool, calm & basically clear here.

SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS LIKELY TO BRING TORRENTIAL DOWNPOURS AND LARGE HAIL TO
PARTS OF THE UPPER NORTH ISLAND TODAY
Scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop over the central and upper North
Island by early this afternoon, producing locally heavy downpours and hail.
Some of these storms over Northland, Auckland, inland Waikato and inland
Waitomo, are likely to be severe, with local rainfall rates exceeding 40mm/hr and
hail over 20mm in diameter. A few severe thunderstorms may also develop over
parts of Taumarunui,Taupo and inland Bay of Plenty where local rainfall rates
may range from 25 to 40mm/hr and hail from 15 to 25mm in diameter.
This thunderstorm activity is expected to die down through the evening hours.
These severe thunderstorms are capable of producing flash flooding and damage
from large hail.
Members of the public are urged to keep an eye out for what is happening in
their local area and take shelter if confronted with threatening conditions.
Good morning all, convection has kicked off earlier than yesterday with large T/Cu which has already developed nicely here.. just a layer of Sc SW, but otherwise fine with scattered T/Cu.
But hmmmmmm do the conditions look juicy juicy or what?!?
yesterday had the most unstable air over Hawke's Bay, but today sees it should land East Waikato to Coromandel.
500mb temp -21c centered over Wellington today.. should see -17c here.
Surface winds SSE for Auckland but mainly ESE elsewhere for tstorm potential.. upper level winds should be northwest, usually the conditions a place like Matamata will see severe electrical storms.
Yes, was looking good for a while here then all fizzled out.. well at least the sun is out now and warming up.. last sounding shows some warmer air at 4km but good cold above that
