Looks like a few strikes over Auckland now.
Reading reports of flooding, large hail gale winds etc. not surprised looks at that rain radar.

Yes, good sea breeze convergence has set off a very active thunderstorm here... I'm sure I saw the start of a funnel cloud from that base earlier!

From here in Laingholm that development over Auckland City is absolutely amazing - and happening so quickly! I've taken a series of digital images, 1 per minute, to track its growth (sorry, can't post them on here), and even over only a 6-7 minute period the difference is staggering. Very very impressive.

Ricky you absolutely did see the start of a funnel cloud, I was watching it myself - I will get some pic's up shortly.
It was indrecible, I first saw it, when I was upstairs battening down the hatches, by the time I ran down and got the samera - it had reduced. I sat outside and kept watching and it tried to start again. I hope my pics come out ok. (Just need to wait for the other half to wake up from an afternoon snooze and fire up his laptop).
From where I am in south Auckland, it was north of the airport.
Lots of thunder here at the moment and a bit of rain.

Looking good from west Auckland, even though it looks like most of the action is to the south. Surface winds in my location is out of the west, and cloud movement in the lower levels is out of the east.

Some awesome images shown on Graham Beaches last 10 minutes video:
http://www.weather-display.com/windy/gb ... dvideo.htm
The realtime web page doesn't seem to working on there at the moment, so I am viewing this page instead. I'm sure I saw some rotation around 16:38 on the video.
