Looks like the rain's finished here.. 28mm for the last 18 hours.

Tekapo web cam shows they got a wee bit of snow down there!

We had 2" in two hrs in the end with thunder and lightening.

Wow, thats a good dumping. The Environment Waikato rain guages didn't catch that thunderstorm so likely a localised downpour.

max rate was 179mm/hr!!

I think you might have missed a decimal point there.

Cleared up now in Chch after last night's rain. Might become quite mild up the westerly picks up.

Fine and sunny this morning here after last night/overnight's deluge.
29.5mm fell here intotal.

If its a 0.2mm tip, then the gauge was tipping roughly every four seconds!

A conversion to minutes would be more practical... 3mm/min is insane stuff!!

Tich =- vertical line on my trend over 6mins or so... it was not an average over an hour that WD indicates, it is more a peak instantaneous rate - I have 10mm/min recorded in the current month record values but that is a 10min average? otherwise = 600mm/hour!!! now that is daft

(so I think that may be an error - should be 10mm/10mins = 60mm/hr.) But over a shorter time as I saw, the peak rate was I think quite correct. I'm sure the west coast could see something similar. Don't forget we do get about 2400mm a year here. I am just reporting what I saw, believe it or not... It did record max total for an hour at 44.5mm... and that is a new record as well. We just got dumped on.... there were 500mm floods across roads - I drove into one and floated for a distance!! That was eerie! (Around a corner in the dark)

Because of the slow rise in elevation to 330m the norwest and even northerly aspect ringht up the Thames Valley running into a stationary mass of cold air here can cause good drops.

No such luck - wind more southwesterly/southerly, so a cooler (or more normal) 12C max in Chch. Still quite pleasant in the sunshine.

...well anyway we had thundery rain here last night. No thunder but the rain did thunder down as far as I'm concerned.
We had guests for dinner last night and they mentioned that the rain was quite heavy here, well you could hear it falling throughout the whole house about 9pm, which is not usually heard.

34mm fell overnight here, and as expected waterways overflowed again.
Although a nice mild day today to relax and take in the fresh air.
In the last week or so we have had up to 84mm of rain very welcome for the gardens, not so for those under water .

most times when it rains here you can here it on the roof

I am not surprised the south waikato got so much rain....the airmass was really saturated as it came through here....clouds were at tree top level just up the road from our place in the northerly....and you say Tokww, the rising ground south of cambridge creates a orographic rain event in northerly rain in the south waikato

A line of Cb's will cross the area late morn, looks like there's a slight chance of a Thunderstorm, TS just off Waikato coast now.
More interesting when these lines cross mid afternoon after a bit of day time heating.
Currently 14C, dp11C.

Thunderstorm was up over the Kapiti coast, also Taranaki and currently Waikato.

It was closer into Wellington, in Johnsonville, where the line was struck by lightning

Heard nothing here, but J'ville is several kms to the north.

Heavy rain here in Pinehaven, Upper Hutt, this morning (7-8am) with associated thunder, squally NW and some hail....as recorded by my WX Station here:
