Same here, but probably we'll get useless patchy stuff whilst the rest of the country, especially up your way and the western coasts gets soaked.

Dewpoints currently 17C in Kaitaia but 12C in Raoul Island. The warm front seems to be creeping into Northland now.

looks like a warm frontal band...behind it should get into higher DP air I think

its more spity rain than anything

Yes, it's a warm sector within the big warm sector. The Metservice prognosis chart does show though that for 12Z, there is a warm front still hanging off west of the country, so the warmest air will still be held in the Tasman. However, a warm front does mark where warm advection stops, not where it starts, so still there will be plentiful muggy air up there.
I wonder what the lowest overnight minimum will be?

Pretty sure i just heard a thunder rumble out to sea, starting to rain here with some big drops about 10 cent pieace size :-) .
Edit just checked the St Albans tracker which plots some strikes NE of Christchurch.
There has been some scatterd CU forms about late this afternoon, wouldnt have expected this though.
Cheers
Jason.

After all it now looks like this may be a non-event (for Auck), as the models show little rain for much of tomorrow and only a brief period of more substantial rain Mon night. Perhaps not even expecting 20mm anymore? Hope things don't turn out that way.

It was apparanataly 27 degrees here at 10am this morning according to weather watch and it got to 24 about that same time at jeffs. Its been heavily overcast all day but the NE thats picked up in the last couple of hours is making temps a fair bit cooler around 20 degrees at the moment. However, it still has a very muggy sticky feeling out there. Its not cold! The tasman dea is looking very messy all week really as another low from the east coast of aussie is working its way over looking like westland in for more rain and once again dry windy and warm conditions for the east of the south. The lows we are getting at the moment are like highs for us at the moment if you get what i mean. Lows bringing warm dry weather. Rain may spread from the west tonight though and few showers on and off tuesday and wednesday, hopefully one or two heavy because the lawns and gardens are so dry!! Its only rained on two days this month recording 10mm and last month only 8 days meaning out of the last 55 days 45 have been dry!

It has finally decided to rain in the Waikato from late morning.
The plants will sure soak all of it up!
Not heavy like M-service are saying but in fact it is very light rain.
Hopefully it will get a bit more heavier so the ground can get a good soaking!

This rain should serve the Waikato pretty well I'd expect!

Yes Mark, that 27°C was taken at Chch Aero but down to about 22°C now. Interestingly though, both Dunedin Aero and Timaru Aero were up to around 28°C at 1pm.

Been fairly dry here on Waiheke so far today - just 10mm overnight. Quite gusty though with gale-force winds further out in the Gulf this morn - seems to be picking up again. About 20°C here.

I thought as much with the rain coming, M-Srvce have posted a moderate risk for thunderstorms in the auckland region.
But looking the sat map and with all that region having cloud cover, and no warmth apart from the front to bring to it - id say that chance is low not moderate as the LI got a reading of 4-8 which is stable conditions and CAPE is on the resting level 400 j/kg.
Not exactly fantastic conditions for them to be formed.

there has been a few lightning stirkes from time to time on the front to the west of auckland all day (I am picking them up on my tracker)
although that could be on the front with the low behind this one

note that the met service severe thunderstorm outlook, that heavy squally rain that you get with embedded CB's is included....but you dont always have to get lightning strikes...
