I'm tempted to get on a plane to SE Queensland if I had the money. But Darwin just too far to pick up bags for a quick dash. Need to plan it like u guys have.

yes, its a bit pricey for even just a short trip when going at short notice.

I have chased SE Qld, 2008 and the chase country is not the best.

Looking good for a Koolpinyah Special in Darwin! (A spectacular thunderstorm).

Look at the build up video here

For the record the Darwin weather webcams are here.

Edit - to allow video to finish with latest image! :)

Confirmed Koolpinyah Special in Darwin at the moment... Lucky sods!

Hope we get one while we are in the city this time (not when we are 3 hours driving time away like last time).

When do you guys arrive again? I will have to get organised!

Looking wet with possible storms over the next 5 days but hope the northeasterly steer turns more southeast.

Obama in town today, rain areas slow to clear.

Cool!

I heard you are interested in visiting Kununurra and Lake Argyle across the border. We could go down for a few days via Katherine. (Katherine is 317km away and Kununurra an extra 513km). I can work my roster so I can get two weekends in a row... so leaving Sunday evening or Monday the 28th and back to work Friday the 2nd would be perfect for that trip.

We'd talked about spending one night at Kununurra - I thought we'd probably visit Katherine on a separate daytrip.

e.g. drive there on the Monday leaving Darwin fairly early to arrive late arvo. Visit the lake on Tuesday morning before heading back. There's a 9:15am cruise on the lake ($70) lasting 2 hours. With the WA time difference we'd be leaving before 10am NT time (I think).

I was wondering what effect the lake would have on storm development in that area...

You guys are going to arrive at the right time I think!  The last week, the weather has been pretty flat and uncooperative with very weak steer and now it's turned northerly. But easterly change is coming with your arrival!

This weekend in particular looks really good with the GFS ramping up instability with 20 knot southeasterlies at 700mb. 8)

Looking forward to it...

I hate these final few days when you get all the jobs appearing out of the woodwork, of course they all have to be done before you go. On top of that it's get all your paperwork up to scratch before you go (twice as bad as last year due to the month rollover). Pretty hectic right now, but only 2 days of it left.

Bring it on :)

Ok, finally got Internet access sorted, as usual Telstra was difficult to say the least.

Some success yesterday in poor storms by Darwin standards & looking forward to things picking up.

Wow! Some incredible storms have rolled through the greater area this arvo/evening. Just got back... Had work in the evening so missed a lot but one HUGE AND ANGRY flang from a storm 7 km to the north spat out a rouge positive CG on our sister property which destroyed the DSX key card system and the computer network. It was instant flash and BANG. Scared a lot of people in the CBD.

Attachment is a photo from Rowland Beardsell (technical observer at BoM Darwin AP) of height of the echo returns from Berrimah radar. Very tall!!

Just had a cursory look at photo's on the camera. My best shot has no less than 7 CG's in it :D

Nothing like last year, we've been treated to a spectacular show this morning. Ok, you can see what time it is, I need sleep.
