Yesterday , CB clouds over the Coromandel could be seen from Auckland.

Thanks Steven, I'm sure I'll get round it soon. I guess a forecast is a forecast and depending on the temp on the actuall day that can influance things for it be the better or worst (better = thunderstorms!!) changing the LI etc.

Cool picture Brian, I put it into Corel Draw and resized it down to get a better look at it. It's definately something for it to be occuring in winter (I think winter is pratically upon us now) in the middel of a big High.

Whats people's predections for thunderstorms on the west coast (South Island) this up coming week? And will something get round and into Canterbury?

The high cloud has cleared today here and the temperature has risen to a balmy 18.5 degrees,must go and catch some rays so I can acclimatise for my move to tropical Cairns in 5 weeks.

That high cloud is slowly clearing from Chch but it's getting late in the day so the sun's going to go away!

I am looking forward to experiencing a tropical climate for a year,especially the wet season.Hopefully will post some awesome lightning shots from the tropics on this forum,(but with a decent camera).
Wow hasnt the weather been boring around here lately,bring on some rain,hail,snow anything.

Same here to John, but you've still got 4 to 5 weeks yet! If I remember correctly Dean I think you said you'll be back in a years time? Is that correct?

Yes John, regarding your comment on crackles on the radio on the other thread. I heard them to and went on the roof and sure enough lightning flashes were going off in the distance on the alps, only sheet. I went to the eastury and did everything correctly this time regarding the 'F' number to use and time leaving the shutter open for and I've concluded it's dam near impossible to pick up lightning on a camera from where I am, it's just to far away despite it looking ok at times when viewing it with the naked eye. Even when doing short exposures (2-3 seconds on f 3.2, 100ASA) nothing registers, I figured it might because since it's such a short exposure the city lights wouldn't be as bright making the lightning better (or so I thought).

Lighting on the Alps might be possible on the port hills or something because there your above the city lights where as I'm looking through them, if you get what I mean.

Still, I should've been able to get lightning on that 14th Feb night time storm in Chch, that was just my bad luck.

No dissapointed feelings tonight though

, I knew if I was going to get anything it wasn't going to be much anyway. Off to bed.

12.15am raining and a subtropical 14 degrees,with a gusty west/northwest wind.

We must've got rain here last night as the ground is wet. Not a big fall by any means though I guess, because I didn't wake up to rain on the roof during the middel of the night.

Also, if your a Geoff Mackley fan he's going to be on Eating Media Lunch next week on TV 2, Tuesday night at about 9 / 9:30pm or there abouts. Whether it's going to be him in person I'm not sure (propable though) but there'll definately be some of his footage on there and they're talking about him.

Still thundering on the coast now, I guess things will slowly petter out as this system moves north? Cb's can be seen along the Alps this morning.

Yeah noticed the cb's to aaron b4 i went to work. I would think your to far away to be picking up much from the alps arent you??

I relise that now!!! It's a good learning curve though.

Although, with a video camera you might be able to do something. The amount of lightning on the alps has been huge during the past 2 days etc, pitty there's no one from the coast on this forum.
