Re: General April Weather
Mild night in ChCh only a minimum of 10 degrees here in cracroft. 11 degrees at present under 7/8 cloud cover, a hint of drizzle but the cloud looks pretty thin, could burn off like it did yesterday although it is a bit less likely
Latest charts look even better for a fine sunny easter for the majority of New Zealand. Liking it.

The Westerlies return next week. According to the latest Niwa outlook we should see more of the anticyclonic /easterly type weather patterns over NZ April -June.
Whangarei and Gisborne on 18C at 6am.

Re: General April Weather
When you refer to westerlies are you meaning general NW-W-SW or true westerlies.Always is easterlies in autumn.I should wear out plenty of brooms and burn out leaf blower motors this season too
Have you seen the depression under australia currently, its at 949hpa and likely to be even lower under where its hidden, its meant to go to 938hpa and what you can see.

Re: General April Weather
Getting warm in the Waikato in the SE flow, would have thought it would have moderated the temp a bit but it seems not.

Re: General April Weather
Picture perfect day again here, bit of wind but after lunch the temp (already very warm) skyrocketed.. heard somewhere it was in the mid 20's! Not bad at all for here! SE about to kick up so its going to be pretty gnarly here for a couple of days, whenever that wind blows from the direction of the alps, things start flying around! (very much like ChCh and their NW'er.

Re: General April Weather
Was a funny day here today. Low cloud this morning starting clearing, then a couple of isolated blowups (towering cumulus) caused very localised showers round lunchtime- most of the city stayed dry, then sunny and clear this afternoon and evening. Lovely night for a run tonight.
Not your normal easterly weather thats for sure.

Re: General April Weather
Yes definatly some nice Congestus forms about this afternoon delivering showers to only some areas, drove home through a towering convergence which flung out a good shower with large drops of rain mixed in.
Certainly very NE like TCU which we dont see too often here in this situation, almost tall enough to keep an eye out for local funnel clouds .

Re: General April Weather
a warm night here, 18C here still this morning
SE wind. No rain...system has been a fizzer for rain...so far...better looking rain bands near the far north...
low in Nth tasman might loop the loop now and then we might get rain from that
surprised the remains of TC Dapne are still moving SE...I thought it might have swung around and moved SW towards Gisborne...

Re: General April Weather
The models have been unreliable of late, this could have something to do with La Nina ending.
Indications are still for a fine Easter for much of NZ apart from eastern NI.
