So what temp was that frost Simon,looks white.

Hello Richard. It was not that cold with local stations reporting minimums between 0*C and -3*C, but it had been very damp so there was plenty of moisture in the air for hoar frost to form. The lake is in a shallow valley where my car thermometer was showing -2*C compared to home (up on the slight hill - 50m above the lake) where it had shown -1*C about 5 minutes beforehand.
