Re: Cold squally thunder across the North Island - Nov 12/13
Here's this morn's MS update…
MetService - Thunderstorm Outlook
Valid to: Midnight Thursday 13 Nov 2014
Issued at: 8:39am Thursday 13 Nov 2014
Atmospheric conditions remain unstable over the North Island and upper South Island during today.
A moderate risk of thunderstorms over Northland, Auckland, northern Waikato and the Coromandel Peninsula this morning eases to a low risk during the afternoon.
About inland Gisborne and the Bay of Plenty east of Opotiki, inland areas of Wanganui, Manawatu, Wairarapa, north Wellington and about Marlborough, wind convergences and daytime heating are expected to produce a moderate of few thunderstorms this afternoon and evening.
Any thunderstorms that develop in these areas have the potential to produce localised heavy rain with intensities of 10-15mm/hr and small hail. However, about Gisborne and the eastern Bay of Plenty rain intensities of 10-20mm/hr and hail 10-20mm in diameter are possible.
Over remaining areas of the North Island and about the South Island from Nelson to northern and inland areas of Canterbury, there is a low risk of a few thunderstorms.
No thunderstorms expected over the remainder of New Zealand.

Looks like most of the action has gone north of Auckland today.
Crazy temperatures for the time of year, 11 degrees at 11am, mid November.

Yes, it was 10.7 when I left my house in Glenfield/Bayview area at 10.30am. Brrrr. Currently at work in Takapuna where it is extremely dark, but calm. Surrounded by lots of huge CBs.David wrote:Looks like most of the action has gone north of Auckland today.

I see MS have extended today's moderate risk to include Waikato down to north Taranaki…
