Re: General May Weather
Yes, Chch Aero's current May record is 27.3C set in 1978, followed by 26.1C in 2002 and 1955.
Also 28C at Kaikoura today (presumably at the airport), which may also be a May record.

Re: General May Weather
Warm day for May, all right.
28C at Puketa, where the aerodrome is just south of Kaikoura.
Must be a record for that site.
Didn't seem all that warm here but then, I suppose thermometers don't lie.

Re: General May Weather
So Chch Aero's 26.6C yesterday would be its 2nd highest May temp since records began in 1954.
Not sure about Kaikoura Aero's 28C yesterday, which it seems shot back up to 27C at midnight. However, Kaikoura town's 25.2C yesterday was its 3rd highest May temp since records began in 1964.

Nev do you happen to know if Christchurch Aero has ever recorded two 25C+ in a row in May before?

Re: General May Weather
Just heard thunder to my west. Im confused though because the rain is still quite a way away. So either it was incredibly loud thunder or a bloody loud nearby explosion.

Akld Aero's 24.4C yesterday was also it 2nd highest May temp since records began in 1963. Its highest being 24.6C in 2011.

It must have been raining worms here overnight, based on the one I found in my glass balustrade mounted Nylex 1000… lol.
19mm here so far since last night.

Re: General May Weather
Is 2011 correct? My station records show the highest in May 2011 was only 21.0. That would be an unusually large difference between here and the airportNev wrote: Akld Aero's 24.4C yesterday was also it 2nd highest May temp since records began in 1963. Its highest being 24.6C in 2011.

Re: General May Weather
Yes, nationally May 2011 was our warmest May on record. Lots of records or near records that month, including Whangaparaoa's 2nd-equal highest May temp of 21.8C, along with 23.4C at Ardmore and 22.7C at Whenuapai (same as Ricky).
