Brief hail shower here too Ben around 4:25pm, wintry hail that is in a heavy shower that moved over at that time.
One or 2 sferix noted but heard no thunder, if so anything electical would of been in the cloud north to the city. Interesting to see the MetStrike chart.
Sky still looking very unstable as dusk sets in, although lots of clear areas around. May get another shower overnight.
Steve Burrows (03stormchaser) and me went out and about on the Canterbury plains and saw some cool stucture and nice looking Cb's. We never got to see any lightning in the end but the day was great with nice bases and big rain / hail swathes all about plus the Cu bubbling up was great against the blue sky . The day had a sort of eery calm about it with not much wind though.
I'll put up a report on my site with pictures tomorrow.
I actually went outside before and could see distant flashes out at sea, scferixs still going strong on the radio, I'm not sure if they from the flashes way offshore or something closer? Had a rain shower earlier.
Here are a few from today.

Some nice pitures there, Aaron.
The last frame had a bit of pileus on the top of the cloud.
I took some video footage mostly from home.
Isaw a bit of pileus on top of a growing Cu tower but by the time I had got my camera, it had gone.
Looking forward to see the report on our site tomorrow
I've updated the site but haven't finished yet, more of the report and pictures to follow tomorrow. Everything else is done, although I may have gone overboard on the satellite pictures. The Modis one is really good though as you can see the exact clouds I was taking photos of for that particular modis sat pic, it's quite big but about 30 seconds and you'll be able to see all of it (on dial up).
Unfortunate on that last picture I took as the lighting and everything looks good but since I was inside the car the dash reflected on the window next to me and it got into the pic towards the upper right hand corner. And power poles always seem to come into view at the most anoying of times , but I thought the pic looked good so put it in there anyway.
Yes John, I gave him a ring about half an hour ago (9:50pm?).
On another note, I doubt this front heading our way at present will affect Canterbury but there maybe some flashes to observe in the early hours of this morning towards the alps if ones keen. I'll keep an eye out but I'll most likely be asleep
