The visa rules are all in the head of Donald Trump as this stage, but one of his election policies was to cancel the visa waiver . And yesterday he further stated on ABC that the visa waiver is going to be cancelled.

Perhaps someone in the US congress will tell him that and he will change his mind.

Has anyone been giving any thought to a timeframe for going next year? My preference would be mid May to early June. Would be good if we could take advantage of flight specials later in the year. I scored great flights in November, the lowest I've seen, $880 return AKL to LAX, only $2062 from Tauranga to Detroit & Dayton (OH) to Tauranga including the 3 1/2 weeks insurance and GST. Was with American Airlines, best of all their international flights arrive & depart from their own terminal at LAX, bit of a trek through International arrivals procedures, but you don't need to leave secure areas.

I am still very keen. So the sooner we set dates the better for grabbing good prices.

I suggest meet in Dallas on Saturday 19th May, (departing NZ Sat May 19th) . I'm thinking 10 days chasing, others can stay longer.

I was thinking about 16 days of actual chasing, Sat 19th works for me as a start date. I see both American Airlines & QANTAS have had good specials to the US for Independence Day, Air NZ followed on. Similar pricing to what I saw in November last year, so that's a positive sign.

Be warned, the QANTAS deals mean flying to Sydney and then about 17 hours on the SYD to DFW direct A380 flight, it adds around 8 hours travel time and is a big haul.

I think chasing from the 19th looks good. I prefer the later part of May for the hotter weather as well.

I found Quantas okay because you don't have to deal with domestic flights/domestic airports in the US, only a quick simple change of aircraft in Sydney.

Valid point. I may not have considered the transfer time at say LAX or SFO, or the connection cost to say DFW enough. I was also sick on the return leg and had a really tough time with the blocked sinuses. Let that be a lesson, others will need to compare apples with apples ;)

For those that are intending on going, how long are you looking to go for.

For me work and budget probably allow a week to 10 days chasing (two weeks away max).

I'm keen on a longer period, 16-20 days would be ideal for me.

Perhaps we run two vehicles, one for the 10 day chasers, another for the 16+ day chasers?

I think I fall into the longer period category. My initial though was around 16 days. Open to consideration of what a group prefers.

Strong tornadoes in the US since the 1950. The trend appears to be trending down. It was certainly more active the middle part of last century.

I'm a ten day chaser, mostly due to a two month trip I'm about to leave on will eat up all my funds for a longer trip to the US sadly. Prob won't lock in dates or flights till later on but the 19th sounds like a plan

For those who want to book early United have had some good deals as well, below $1400 to Dallas return, the long haul part of the journey with Air NZ. The deals come and go.
House of Travel is a good place to book.

From what I have seen the deal is via Houston.

Looking like two start dates,

The early starters on about May 15th and later starters about May 19th.

I think it is easier if we all start on the same day, shall we make the start date May 15th ?

It was in Houston, out San Fran.
