Tropical air over the north of the country today. Both Kaitaia and kerikeri have a dewpoint of 19C.

Looks like the rain is clearing here already? Which is a surprise. Winds starting to get a little gusty now, up to 50kmh here currently.

Heavy rain over the last 45 minutes between Laingholm and Titirangi. It is clearing now. Just been unblocking/removing debris from some Council storm water drains pits which were covered with leaves.
It does look very wet for the Coromandel on the radar.

Concerning situation developing in South Canterbury, snow is falling in Tekapo with much more moisture to come yet. Can't see it warming up too much either.

The cut off low off the upper NI is virtually stationery with flow on affects on numerous fronts across NZ. Very hard to read the next moves and models are having a tough time pin pointing rainfall intensity. MS extending the south Canterbury warning to 140 to 160mm for the event with the atmospheric gridlock.

Here, the baro is 1003.3 and steady, 16mm. Had a gust of around 80 km/h on my hand held at 1pm nearby. I'm sheltered by a ridge from big northerlies, so have only clocked a 45 km/h on the PWS.

Yes, think the models struggled with this one, certainly was not expected to be a mainly dry afternoon/evening here. I don't see where an extra 60-80mm from 2pm to 11pm will come from (per the updated Metservice warning).

Metservice now also predicting more rain tomorrow and another burst tomorrow evening for South Canterbury. With snow falling in Tekapo and not predicted to get much warmer tonight (?) could be a suprise fall for them.

Went into Timaru today.
Lots of water lying around especially here in Geraldine.
We have had over 100mm here so far here and more is likely to fall. The street was flooded but now has drained away. The Waihi river was bank to bank but other rivers towards Timaru weren't as flowy as what the Waihi was.
Interesting to see how much we get out of this event? :-k
