This system has had surprisingly little lightning with it.

Another sparkling day with Grey Lynn already on 22C. Might head for beach!

Yes, there seemed to be some lightning activity on the front as it moved across the North Island.
As the surface pressure readings are rather high for a significant event to happen, I didn't expect much although we did get a reasonable amount of rain, here, overnight and this morning as what was compared to that had fallen at the MS Timaru weather site at RPA at Levels.

I had some recordings of thunder which I recorded in the 1980's on the old cassette tape with a microphone held out the window. When I heard a sferic on the radio, I would release the pause button and record the thunder. Some of the claps or rolls of thunder, I used to play on my old strereo system, out loud, and confuse the neighbours, escpecially on a blue-dome sunny day.
Sadly I've lost those tapes, or probably put them in the rubbish, accidentally of course. o_O

Cuts off cleanly from the westerly belt at 500 hPa on Easter Sunday morning. Tropical depression remnants to then add an atmospheric river above a developing surface low around Easter Monday from the North. These set ups can escalate quite quickly with the supporting interacting jets. SST’s to add some spice to the mix.
Don't know what you are talking about, but with today's weather, here, it does make sense <3

You may wish to consider downloading a free program called scanner recorder. You can use a microphone on a laptop or PC to record noise. The program has a threshold which is adjustable. It buffers a few moments sounds. If it exceeds the set threshold it starts from a moment before it exceeds the threshold. It also creates log showing real time of the recording versus the time on the recorded track. Using an external Vogad (Voice Operated Gain Adjustment Device) microphone would on it would give great results during a thunderstorm.
