Re: Tropical Cyclone Gretel - Coral/Tasman Sea
Gretel's now into Fiji Met's area of responsibly. Currently 40 knot max winds, central pressure 990 hPa and travelling ESE at about 21 knots. JTWC's initial track-map has her skirting fairly close to New Caledonia.

Conditions still marginally favourable for further intensification to Cat 2 tonight as she interacts with New Caledonia, then likely to transition tomorrow night to north of NZ, while still packing Cat 2 equivalent winds.

Re: Tropical Cyclone Gretel - Coral/Tasman Sea
Just for the record, Gretel was declared extratropical by MetService around 7am this morning NZDT, still with max winds of 50 knots and a central pressure now down to 979 hPa (1 hPa lower than at her peak 24 hrs ago). About 6 hours earlier, her centre passed within about 570 km NE of Cape Reinga as a Cat 2 TC.

Re: Tropical Cyclone Gretel - Coral/Tasman Sea
Certainly kept it's strength close to NZ, this storm was a near miss. The two main models performed quite well, by about Saturday they had picked the pass to the northeast.
