Ah right, hadn't been following EC for a few days, after your comment I excitedly went to check... sooner or later we'll get a subtropical low surely

23C in Christchurch on May 2nd after 11pm! That surely must be close to a record.

Re: General May Weather
Yes. A warm day here in Geraldine, despite the persistent cloud cover from the west.
21.5C, recorded around 6pm, with it still being 16.6 at 10pm.
Cooling a little more towards midnight, with Northerly winds easing..

Re: General May Weather
Slow moving rain band has dumped 18mm so far along with two lightning flashes and deep rumbles.

Re: General May Weather
Warm upper air today is curbing the lightning output on the cb's but its not impossible for Auckland to get a rumble a later in the day. We need to score a heavy fall, this drought has gone on for too long.
Tomorrow looks the classic coldie thunder day for the North Island. Looks like some rumbles and localised hail likely over the western North Island tomorrow, especially south of Hamilton but Auckland is unstable after lunch.
Tuesday looking like more coldie thunder before the ridge comes in.

2.6mm over the last 24 hours. Latest model spread for today's potential rain locally is averaging 20 to 30mm. That would be a good start to May IF it verifies. Individual models showing

Re: General May Weather
woah that is a decent band of rain. havnt seen that for a long time. its may now so should start getting wetter lol
i do think this trough/low pressure system will bring us some nice rain. even tho its not enough to break the drought

Re: General May Weather
I’m holding less and less hope of this front delivering decent rain.

Re: General May Weather
Metservice has just a low risk for us tomorrow. Let's see!NZstorm wrote: ↑Sun 03/05/2020 07:23 Warm upper air today is curbing the lightning output on the cb's but its not impossible for Auckland to get a rumble a later in the day. Re: General May Weather
Temp. here fallen a couple of degrees: 19.9° at the moment;
no sunshine now, and a very soggy-looking cloud layer to the west: I wouldn't mind if it rained here.
editing to add: humidity 41%

Re: General May Weather
A fabulous 28mm here since it started yesterday. Looks like it might be clearing earlier than expected.

Re: General May Weather
27 mm here since midday... which isn’t much, but it’s almost a quarter of 2020 total rainfall thus far (112mm).

Re: General May Weather
Interesting with the NE that Lyttelton's official max temperature today (24C) is higher than the airport (23C) on Metservice. Certainly has been a gloriously warm day, unfortunately when running just now the shade wasn't much cooler than the sunny areas!
The slopes of the peninsula across the water are still golden, not surprisingly so. It's beautiful.
