Here comes the anticipated westerly flow. It might have been a dominant NE in the city yesterday but I don't think we are going to see that for awhile.
There is a very minimal risk of thunder south of Christchurch tomorrow evening, but it's not really much to blink the eyes for.
Some heavy showers and small hail, along a change line.

Most of the action will be about and west of the main divide for the next few weeks, just the odd spillover in the east.
The winds will be the main concern especially for the high country at times, although some good gales out east too.

Deciduous trees definitely reacting to the milder dry weather much quicker this year I've noticed, plus much more pollen off the pines than last year.

Southerly change just gone through, although it has been light southerly most of the day. Some beefy looking cloud towards Mt. Peel before the wind and grey stratus came through.

There is plenty of dry weather ahead, any Spring rain from now on will be good.

Proper southerly came through around 4:30pm with low cloud moving in and cooler temperatures.
Some rain this evening with 4.5mm falling to 10pm this evening.
Today's maximum was 19.1C.

Certainly looks like some severe gales ahead as we settle into the classic spring patterns. Keeping an eye on Sunday this weekend in particular in the models

Yes, a westerly trend seems likely as we move into a El nino spring.
Like that today with clear blue skies and a westerly wind developing this afternoon.
Today's maximum was 17.9C.

As mentioned a very windy period coming up, gradually getting stronger with each wave of fronts.
Tomorrow will be gale for most of the region and also gale SW on Friday around the coastlines Banks Peninsula etc.
But the weekend and next week are continuing to show severe gales even in the east, which would suggest that further inland would be even higher.
Some spillover rain at times but certainly is of concern as its drying up very quickly, as most days the temperature is above 15C.
As Jim once said time to batten down the hatches and tie up the horses \:D/

Yes, looks likely a windy period coming up, hopefully not as windy as 1975 or 2013, with NW gales.
Fine day here with light frost this morning. Cool NE keeping today's maximum temperature at t 16.3C.

Similar here, at its strongest just before sunrise. Died off until about half an hour ago when I hung the washing out (I know, it’s all my fault) and it’s back but quite gusty rather than consistently strong.

Yeah soil is very dry for the time of year, next to no rain here for the last 6 weeks. a lot of people around here seem to be concerned about potential drought this summer.

Strong Northerly today and temperature warming up as the high cloud shifts out east, 18c.

Seemed to be plenty of lull periods in west Christchurch with no wind at all today, then the 40-50kmh gusts would hit.
The wind peaked around mid afternoon gusting over 65kmh.

Just looking ahead once we are through the gale SW in the morning, looks like another round overnight Saturday with slightly stronger winds.
But mid week windy has the NW at 70-80kts, that's over the usual spots inland and also western, southern, northern Christchurch.
Potentially very damaging winds if these evenuate.
Also to note the surface temperature could be around 25C to 26C in the east on Wednesday. A close September record I'm sure.

A generally fine day here with winds from the westerly quarter.
Looking hazy towards the foothills early this afternoon.
Usual breezes here and lots of calm spells with the wind tending south-easterly for a while this afternoon.
Warm though with today's maximum reaching 23.7C.

Fine day, but a cold wind from the south keeping the temperature down to 16C for the maximum today.
Warm in the sun out of the wind.
Winds easing later this afternoon.
